Star-Delta Starter
A controlled start for three-phase pump and motor applications — starting in star and changing to delta for normal running.
Overview
A star-delta starter reduces the current drawn at start-up compared to a direct-on-line start by first energising the motor windings in star configuration — where each winding sees a lower voltage — and then switching to delta for full-voltage normal running once the motor is close to running speed. This makes it a good fit for larger motors where a straight DOL start would otherwise draw an excessive inrush current from the supply.
KVP's unit is built from a line contactor, a star contactor, a delta contactor and an overload relay, and is available in semi-automatic or fully-automatic changeover. It requires a six-terminal motor that is rated to run in delta.

English: Press the green START button to begin the sequence — the line and star contactors energise first for a reduced-current start, then the unit switches to the line and delta contactors for full-voltage running. Press the red STOP button at any time to de-energise all contactors and stop the motor; there's no automatic restart after a stop or trip.

English: On semi-automatic units, you manually move the changeover lever/switch from STAR to DELTA once the motor has picked up speed (a few seconds after starting).
